History

Founded in 1967, after the start of construction work on the production unit in Apiaí/SP and the Serrinha mine, InterCement began operations in Brazil in 1974. In the early 1990s, with the second line of operations at the Apiaí plant and the inauguration of the Bodoquena/MS plant, we surpassed the mark of 2 million tons of cement produced per year.

In 1997, a major milestone in our history occurred, with the acquisition of the Cimento Cauê brand and its plants in Pedro Leopoldo and Santana do Paraíso, both in Minas Gerais.

In 2003 the inauguration of the factory in Ijaci/MG further expanded the company’s production capacity.

In 2007 we published the Sustainability Letter, which reinforces InterCement Brazil’s commitment to minimizing environmental impacts throughout the production chain.
In the following year, 2008, we acquired the CIMEC mill, which represented our entry into the northeastern market.

As of 2015 we initiated a series of measures aimed at generating a positive social impact for people involved both internally and externally with the company. This year also saw the inauguration of the InterCement Institute, which helps unlock the potential of the communities where InterCement Brazil operates, promoting community development. The InterCement Institute is responsible for defining strategies, creating methodologies and implementing InterCement Brazil’s private social investment. All investments are focused on three areas of action: Community Development, Impact Businesses and Company Community.

2017 saw the consolidation of our organizational culture with the launch of the EVP (Employee Value Proposition), SER InterCement. InterCement Brazil’s Diversity and Inclusion area was created in 2020, and the following year at InterCement Brasil, and the following year we launched the company’s new purpose and cultural principles manifesto.

We currently have operations in several Brazilian states, using the Cauê, Goiás and Zebu bands, undertaking efficient and sustainable works operating with socio-environmental responsibility and always attuned to the safety of our professionals, suppliers and customers. We supply various types of customers, ranging all the way from large and small retailers to big construction works and industries that need a quality product coupled with the highest level of service.
In all we have 15 factories in operation, which ensure a wide and constant distribution of products to customers throughout the year. InterCement Brazil has a total production capacity of 17.2 million tons of cement per year.

Our plant and office team is made up of approximately 2,000 people who strive to constantly innovate to achieve operational excellence, with a focus not only on results but also on improving the world through our products and services.
